Let agents research through MCP and save results back to the workspace

The MCP server lets AI agents work directly with OpenSEO data, while Agent Skills package reusable SEO workflows such as an initial keyword-research pass. A notable distinction from calling a raw SEO-data MCP is that the agent can save information back into the OpenSEO account, including tags used to cluster keywords. The agent can then return a link to the research so a human can inspect the underlying data and continue the work in the UI instead of relying only on a generated summary.

For small teams that want broad SEO coverage without a heavyweight suite

OpenSEO fits independent developers, product teams, small agencies, and content teams that need keyword research, rank tracking, backlinks, and technical audits but do not want their process locked into a large SEO SaaS interface. It is particularly relevant when Claude Code, Codex, or another MCP-capable agent is already used for research and you want SEO work to become part of that environment. The project supports a simple Docker path for local evaluation and recommends Cloudflare for internet-facing self-hosting.

Self-hosting still leaves SEO data costs and infrastructure to operate

A self-hosted installation still requires a DataForSEO account and API key, with usage charges paid directly to that third party. Controlling the OpenSEO application is therefore different from owning the underlying search-data collection infrastructure, and expected API usage should be part of the cost calculation.

For internet-facing self-hosting, the recommended Cloudflare deployment provisions Workers, D1, KV, R2, and Cloudflare Access. It can start within Cloudflare's free plan, although enabling R2 requires a payment method, and allowed teammates share a single workspace in this self-hosted setup. OpenSEO itself is MIT-licensed, while DataForSEO and any other connected services retain their own pricing and usage terms.
