Overview
This repository is the project portal for Jackson rather than an implementation module. It maps the JSON streaming and POJO databinding components, additional data-format and JVM datatype modules, and the versioning and migration guidance for the 2.x and 3.x lines.
Features and best fit

Key features
Map the roles of core, databind, and annotations
Jackson separates its foundation into jackson-core for streaming APIs, jackson-databind for POJO data binding, and jackson-annotations for standard annotations. This portal links to the repositories for those components.

Find extensions for non-JSON formats and JVM datatypes
The project catalog covers formats such as Avro, CBOR, CSV, Protobuf, TOML, XML, and YAML, together with datatype modules for Kotlin and widely used Java libraries.

Best fit
Before adoption
Treat this repository as a project portal, not the implementation library
Parsers, databinding, annotations, and other runtime code live in separate repositories and Maven artifacts. Adoption starts by selecting the required components and release line, normally through artifacts published to Maven Central and optionally the BOM.

Jackson 3 requires JDK 17 and changes package and Maven coordinates
Jackson 3 raises the baseline to JDK 17 and moves most Maven group IDs and Java packages from com.fasterxml.jackson to tools.jackson. It is not a drop-in 2.x upgrade, so the migration guide should be reviewed for API and configuration changes.

Supplemental curator note
This repository is the map for the Jackson ecosystem, not the runtime dependency itself. Choose the required modules and release line first; 3.x is recommended for new projects, while 2.x-to-3.x migrations require coordinated Maven, package, API, and configuration changes.
Try it in 3 steps
- 1
Fetch the Jackson project portal
Clone the project-wide portal before selecting implementation modules.
git clone https://github.com/FasterXML/jackson.git jackson-project - 2
Pin the documentation snapshot reviewed here
Check out the same README, versioning, and Jackson 3 migration snapshot reviewed on 2026-10-04.
git -C jackson-project checkout f53840ccb433774cc275f61c028eb226a63a8df9 - 3
Inspect the core modules and BOM options
Because this repository is a portal rather than the implementation library, select the required modules and release line from the README.
git -C jackson-project grep -n -E 'jackson-(core|databind|annotations|bom)' -- README.md | head -n 20
