Overview
The Firebase Apple SDK provides modules for Authentication, Firestore, Realtime Database, Messaging, Crashlytics, Remote Config, Storage, AI Logic, and other Firebase services on iOS and other Apple platforms. Applications add only the products they need through SwiftPM and initialize shared configuration through FirebaseCore.
Features and best fit
Based on official documentation; not hands-on tested · Content checked:
Key features
Add authentication, databases, messaging, crash reporting, and other products independently
SwiftPM products include FirebaseAuth, FirebaseFirestore, FirebaseDatabase, FirebaseMessaging, FirebaseCrashlytics, FirebaseStorage, and more, allowing targets to depend only on the services they use.
Initialize shared application configuration through FirebaseCore
After supplying project configuration such as GoogleService-Info.plist, applications call FirebaseApp.configure() during startup before using Firebase services.

Best fit
Fits iOS applications that want managed backend capabilities under one Firebase project
It is useful when authentication, databases, push messaging, crash monitoring, and related backend capabilities should be assembled without building each service independently.

Before adoption
Version 12.19.2 is SwiftPM-only and uses Swift tools 6.1 with iOS 15+
Release 12.19.2 is explicitly Swift Package Manager only. The README also states that new Firebase Apple SDK versions will stop publishing to CocoaPods after October 2026. Package.swift declares iOS 15, Mac Catalyst 15, macOS 10.15, tvOS 15, and watchOS 7 minimums.

Supplemental curator note
Firebase Apple SDK fits iOS apps that want managed authentication, databases, push messaging, and crash monitoring under one project. Version 12.19.2 is SwiftPM-only, and new CocoaPods releases end after October 2026.
Try it in 3 steps
- 1
Add Firebase Apple SDK 12.19.2 with SwiftPM
Version 12.19.2 is a SwiftPM-only release. Add the products required by the application.
.package(url: "https://github.com/firebase/firebase-ios-sdk.git", exact: "12.19.2") - 2
Add FirebaseCore to the target
Link FirebaseCore so the application can initialize shared Firebase configuration.
.product(name: "FirebaseCore", package: "firebase-ios-sdk") - 3
Configure Firebase during application startup
Provide project configuration such as GoogleService-Info.plist and initialize Firebase before using services.
import FirebaseCore FirebaseApp.configure()
