Overview
Redash is a self-hosted analytics tool for querying databases and data warehouses and sharing the results as charts and dashboards. Its browser-based query editor, schema browser, visualizations, scheduled refreshes, alerts, and REST API support a broad set of SQL and NoSQL data sources.
Features and best fit

Key features
Query a broad set of data sources from one editor
The schema-aware query editor connects to systems including PostgreSQL, MySQL, BigQuery, Snowflake, Databricks, Athena, Redshift, and many other built-in sources.

Turn query results into visualizations and shared dashboards
Query results can become charts and other visualizations, which can be combined into dashboards and shared by URL for wider consumption and review.
Sources: [1]
Automate refreshes, alerts, and integrations through the API
Scheduled refreshes, conditional alerts, and a REST API allow recurring analytics and downstream integrations without manually rerunning every query.

Best fit
Fits organizations connecting SQL analysts with dashboard consumers
It is useful when analysts should own queries while business users consume a self-hosted dashboard layer over the same data.

Before adoption
Treat v26.9.0 security fixes as the baseline for older upgrades
Version 26.9.0 addresses 13 security advisories covering SQL injection, query and dashboard keys, permission bypasses, DuckDB local-file access, and related issues. The release recommends upgrading all installations, especially multi-user environments with differing data-source permissions.
Sources: [2]
Rotate previously exposed query API keys after upgrading
The release notes warn that upgrading does not revoke previously disclosed query API keys. Potentially exposed keys should be regenerated; disabling a dashboard share alone does not revoke query keys.

Review the official setup script before running it on a dedicated Linux server
The official getredash/setup script runs as root, installs packages and Docker, and builds the environment under /opt/redash. Its --overwrite option replaces an existing database and environment, so it should not be used casually.

Supplemental curator note
Redash fits organizations where SQL users create queries and broader teams consume the results through dashboards. Version 26.9.0 contains a large security hardening set, so upgrades from older deployments should include compatibility review and credential rotation where exposure is possible.
Try it in 3 steps
- 1
Clone the official setup repository
Fetch Redash's reference Docker setup for a single Linux server. Prefer a dedicated environment rather than an existing general-purpose host.
git clone https://github.com/getredash/setup.git && cd setup - 2
Review the script before running it as root
The script changes packages, Docker, and /opt/redash. Do not use --overwrite because it replaces an existing database and environment.
less setup.sh - 3
Install v26.9.0 on the dedicated server
Run on a supported Linux system and finish setup in the browser. Larger production deployments should design separate database/Redis services and redundancy.
sudo ./setup.sh --version 26.9.0
