For adding a compact Git service to an existing Java environment
It fits teams that want to start with one WAR and expand to an external database or plugins later. Before upgrades, back up repositories, configuration, and the database under HOME/.gitbucket, then read the release notes.

Check Java, Servlet, and database migration compatibility
Current releases require Java 17 and support Servlet 3.0 containers but not Jakarta EE. Although upgrades generally replace the WAR, some versions need migrations; the README includes a manual H2 database migration for 4.47.
