Overview

Grafana is an observability and visualization platform that queries multiple data sources, presents metrics, logs, and traces, and connects them to alerting. Dashboards and exploration views let teams compare different data in one investigation context.

Layer dashboards, exploration, and alerts over data sources

Grafana provides panel visualizations, reusable dashboards with variables, ad-hoc metric exploration, log navigation that preserves label filters, and alert evaluation. A single graph can mix data sources on a per-query basis.

Create a common view over distributed monitoring data

It is a candidate when operations teams need shared dashboards and investigation paths across existing stores such as Prometheus, Loki, Elasticsearch, InfluxDB, or Postgres. The public demo provides a way to inspect the interaction before installation.

Separate visualization from collection and storage

Grafana queries connected systems, so collection, retention, and data quality still need their own design. The OSS repository is AGPL-3.0-only with some Apache-2.0 exceptions. Review LICENSING.md when distributing a modified service or embedding components.
