Overview
jQuery Mouse Wheel Plugin 3.2.2 adds cross-browser mousewheel event support and delta normalization to jQuery. It extends the event object with deltaX, deltaY, and deltaFactor so applications can handle values from physical wheels and trackpads more consistently.
Features and best fit
Based on official documentation; not hands-on tested · Content checked:
Key features
Handle mousewheel events through jQuery on()
The README shows binding the mousewheel event to an element and reading normalized values from the event object.

Normalize deltaX and deltaY across browsers and devices
The plugin normalizes widely varying wheel and trackpad delta values into whole-number increments that are easier to handle consistently.
Sources: [1]
Recover browser-reported scroll distance with deltaFactor
The README explains that multiplying deltaFactor by deltaX or deltaY yields the scroll distance reported by the browser.

Best fit
Fits legacy jQuery interfaces that need consistent wheel-input handling
It is useful when existing jQuery event handling must absorb wheel input from different browsers and devices without rewriting the surrounding interaction model.

Before adoption
The mousewheel() and unmousewheel() helper methods are deprecated
The README marks the helper methods as deprecated and recommends .on("mousewheel", handler) instead.
Sources: [1]
Legacy delta/deltaX/deltaY handler arguments are also deprecated
The old three extra handler arguments are deprecated; new code should use properties on the event object.

Supplemental curator note
Prefer .on("mousewheel", ...). The mousewheel() / unmousewheel() helper methods and legacy handler arguments are deprecated, so new code should read deltaX, deltaY, and deltaFactor from the event object.
Try it in 3 steps
- 1
Install pinned jQuery Mouse Wheel 3.2.2 with jQuery 4.0.0
Create an isolated npm project with the reviewed wheel plugin and jQuery version pinned.
demo=$(mktemp -d "${TMPDIR:-/tmp}/jquery-mousewheel.XXXXXX") && cd "$demo" && npm init -y >/dev/null && npm install --save-exact jquery-mousewheel@3.2.2 jquery@4.0.0 - 2
Verify package versions
Require jQuery Mouse Wheel and jQuery to resolve to the reviewed versions.
test "$(node -e "const fs=require('fs');const m=JSON.parse(fs.readFileSync('node_modules/jquery-mousewheel/package.json'));const j=JSON.parse(fs.readFileSync('node_modules/jquery/package.json'));console.log(m.version+'/'+j.version)")" = '3.2.2/4.0.0' - 3
Check regular and minified distributions
Verify both distribution files, including the minified file added to the npm package in 3.2.2.
test -f node_modules/jquery-mousewheel/jquery.mousewheel.js && test -f node_modules/jquery-mousewheel/jquery.mousewheel.min.js
