Overview
JupyterLab is a web environment for interactive and reproducible computing on the Jupyter architecture. It brings notebooks, terminals, text editors, a file browser, and rich outputs into one workspace.
Features and best fit
Based on official documentation; not hands-on tested · Content checked:
Arrange code, documents, data, and terminals in one workspace
Notebooks and consoles execute code and display outputs including images, HTML, and LaTeX. The file browser and editor sit alongside configurable tabs and panels. Prebuilt extensions can be installed through PyPI or conda.

For retaining interactive data-science, research, and teaching workflows
It fits individuals and teams that use language kernels such as Python and want code, explanation, and results in the same shareable document. Terminals and source files in the same interface help turn exploration into repeatable notebooks.

Move to JupyterLab 4 and check the extension format
JupyterLab 3 has reached end of maintenance, so upgrading to version 4 is recommended. Source extensions require an npm package build, while prebuilt extensions install as Python or conda packages. Also verify supported Firefox, Chrome, or Safari versions and command PATH setup.
