Papra — a minimal self-hosted archive for storing and retrieving documents

About these scores

OSS scale score is an unbounded metric that log-compresses and weights Stars, Watchers, Forks, and Contributors. Discovery score is the current OSS scale score minus the score at discovery. Update pace is commits in the last 30 days, growth momentum is the OSS scale score difference within the recent observation window, and OSS health is a 0–100 rating based on available recency, Community Health, and release data.

Overview

Papra is a self-hosted document management and archiving platform for long-term storage and retrieval of receipts, warranties, contracts, and similar documents, with full-text search, tags, automated ingestion, content extraction, sharing, and APIs.

Features and best fit

Based on official documentation; not hands-on tested · Content checked:

Retrieve long-term archived documents with full-text search and tags

Documents can be stored centrally and later found through full-text search, advanced filters, tags, and organization-level grouping.

Sources: [2][3]

Automate ingestion from email and folders and extract searchable content

Papra can ingest forwarded email or watched folders and extract text from images or scanned documents for search.

Sources: [2][3]

For homes and small organizations that want a straightforward digital archive

It fits cases centered on storing, organizing, finding, and sharing documents rather than a complex enterprise document workflow.

Configure public sharing and authentication secrets carefully

External shares can use expiration and passwords. Real self-hosted instances should use a strong generated AUTH_SECRET rather than the README's test value.

Supplemental curator note

Papra favors a simpler document-archive experience while still providing email ingestion, content extraction, tagging rules, CLI/API access, and sharing. Replace the README's dummy `AUTH_SECRET` with a strong secret for any real deployment.
