Overview

Sherlock is an OSINT CLI that checks whether a username appears across hundreds of social networks. It can narrow the target sites, accept multiple usernames, and export candidates for follow-up.

Choose usernames, sites, and output for the investigation

Run sherlock user123 for one name or supply several names. Use --site to limit checks, --print-found to focus the terminal output, and CSV or XLSX output to hand results to another review step.

Use it for an authorized first-pass OSINT search

We suggest it for checking your own handle or triaging candidates in lawful, authorized research. Record the target, purpose, and check time, then corroborate any result independently.

A matching username does not establish identity

Results are account candidates, not proof that the same person controls them. The help text also warns that --ignore-exclusions may produce more false positives. The tool sends requests to external services, so review applicable terms, law, and authorization first.
