Overview
Typemill is a flat-file CMS that uses Markdown files as its content source. It requires no database and targets documentation, manuals, knowledge bases, handbooks, and other informational sites. A visual block editor sits alongside raw Markdown editing, with themes, plugins, and eBook publishing extending the workflow.
Features and best fit
Based on official documentation; not hands-on tested · Content checked:
Key features
Manage Markdown content without a database server
Content stays as Markdown on the filesystem, allowing documentation sites to run without provisioning a separate database service.

Switch between visual block editing and raw Markdown
A visual editor supports authors who do not want to edit markup directly, while a raw Markdown editor keeps the same source accessible to technical writers and developers.

Extend publishing through plugins, themes, and eBook output
Twig themes, plugins, and custom eBook layouts extend the CMS, and the eBook plugin supports converting a single source into PDF and ePUB outputs.

Best fit
Fits teams managing documentation, manuals, and handbooks around Markdown
It is useful when Markdown should remain the source of truth while browser-based CMS editing is still needed for non-developer contributors.

Before adoption
Update to a recent 2.x release containing the v2.27.0 security fixes
Version 2.27.0 fixes restricted-media access bypasses, authorization gaps in the public article API, and stored-XSS risks in SVG sanitization. Older 2.x deployments should review the release and update.
Sources: [2]
Configure writable directories and PHP requirements carefully
Typemill requires PHP 8.1+, a web server, required PHP libraries, and write access to cache, content, data, media, and settings directories. Deployments should grant only the permissions needed.

Supplemental curator note
Typemill fits documentation and handbook workflows that should keep source content as Markdown files while giving non-developers a browser editor. Version 2.27.0 includes authorization and SVG-sanitizer security fixes, so older 2.x deployments should prioritize updates.
