Overview
Zammad is a web-based helpdesk and customer-support platform that turns requests from email, chat, telephone, and other channels into shared tickets. Teams can coordinate ownership, status, priority, customer history, and integrations through a common workflow and REST API.
Features and best fit
Based on official documentation; not hands-on tested · Content checked:
Bring multiple support channels into one ticket queue
Requests from email, chat, telephone, and other channels can be handled through one ticket model with shared ownership, state, and history.
Share support history and customer context across a team
Ticket history and assignments reduce knowledge trapped in personal mailboxes and make handoffs and duplicate-response avoidance easier.
For self-hosted customer support and internal helpdesk workflows
Zammad fits teams that need assignment, search, history, and API integration around a growing volume of support requests.
Plan search, backups, upgrades, and AGPL obligations
The official Docker Compose stack uses PostgreSQL and enables Elasticsearch by default. Operations include backups and upgrades, and modified network-service deployments should review AGPL-3.0 requirements.

Supplemental curator note
Zammad fits support teams that want shared ownership, status, and history instead of handling requests in individual mailboxes. The project is AGPLv3; organizations running modified versions as network services should review the source-availability obligations in that license.
