publish incidents and maintenance from a self-hosted status page

About these scores

OSS scale score is an unbounded metric that log-compresses and weights Stars, Watchers, Forks, and Contributors. Discovery score is the current OSS scale score minus the score at discovery. Update pace is commits in the last 30 days, growth momentum is the OSS scale score difference within the recent observation window, and OSS health is a 0–100 rating based on available recency, Community Health, and release data.

Overview

Cachet is a self-hosted status-page application for publishing service-component health, incidents, and maintenance information. The current 3.x branch is being rebuilt on PHP 8.3+ and Laravel 13.

Features and best fit

Based on official documentation; not hands-on tested · Content checked:

Key features

Publish service health by component

A public status page can organize component states and service health so users have one place to check operational conditions.

Sources: [2]

Manage incident and maintenance communication

Operators can manage incident and planned-maintenance information and expose those updates through the public status page.

Best fit

Fits teams that want to own their incident-communication status page

It is relevant when status data and the public communication surface should stay on organization-controlled infrastructure rather than an external status service.

Before adoption

Do not mix the 3.x rebuild with the older 2.x release line

The default branch is the 3.x rebuild, while GitHub's latest release remains v2.4.1. Match documentation and source generation before deployment.

The current license is not a standard open-source license

LICENSE.md restricts standalone redistribution and composer.json declares proprietary licensing. Review the use, modification, and distribution terms before adoption.

Supplemental curator note

Cachet is a PHP and Laravel application for operating a status page under your own control. The current default branch is the 3.x rebuild using PHP 8.3+ and Laravel 13, while GitHub's latest release still points to the older v2.4.1 line. The current LICENSE.md contains redistribution restrictions and composer.json declares the project proprietary, so it should not be treated as carrying a standard OSI open-source license.

Try it in 3 steps

  1. 1

Clone Cachet 3.x and install dependencies

PHP 8.3+, Composer, Node.js/npm, and a supported database are required.

git clone --depth 1 --branch 3.x https://github.com/cachethq/cachet.git && cd cachet && composer install && npm install
  2. 2

    Prepare a local SQLite environment

Create a local application key and SQLite database for evaluation.

    cp .env.example .env && php artisan key:generate && touch database/database.sqlite && php artisan migrate
  3. 3

    Start the development services

Run the Laravel server, queue listener, log viewer, and Vite together. Review the current non-standard license terms before adoption.

    composer run dev
