Overview
Chucker is an on-device HTTP inspector for Android applications. It runs as an OkHttp interceptor, records requests and responses inside the app, and exposes them through a notification and inspection UI.

Key features
Record OkHttp traffic and inspect it inside the app
Adding ChuckerInterceptor to an OkHttpClient records HTTP(S) exchanges and exposes them through a notification and Chucker inspection screen, avoiding the need for an external proxy during routine debugging.

Redact sensitive headers and decode custom bodies
Authorization-like headers can be redacted, and custom BodyDecoder implementations can display formats such as Protobuf that are not handled by the default text, Gzip, or Brotli support.

Best fit
Fits Android teams that need fast on-device API debugging
Retrofit and OkHttp integrations can inspect the actual URLs, headers, request bodies, and responses generated by a running debug build.

Before adoption
Keep it development-only and manage sensitive data and notification permission
The README positions Chucker for development use and provides a library-no-op release artifact. Captured traffic may contain credentials, and Android 13 or newer requires POST_NOTIFICATIONS permission to show Chucker notifications.

Supplemental curator note
Chucker shortens Android API debugging by keeping traffic inspection on the device. Because captured traffic may include authorization, cookies, and bodies, use the no-op release artifact and redact sensitive headers.
Try it in 3 steps
- 1
Add Chucker 4.3.1 separately for debug and release
Keep the real inspector in debug builds and use the empty no-op artifact for release builds.
debugImplementation("com.github.chuckerteam.chucker:library:4.3.1") releaseImplementation("com.github.chuckerteam.chucker:library-no-op:4.3.1") - 2
Add the interceptor to OkHttpClient
Follow the README minimal integration and attach ChuckerInterceptor to OkHttp.
val client = OkHttpClient.Builder() .addInterceptor(ChuckerInterceptor(context)) .build() - 3
Generate traffic in a debug build and open Chucker
Confirm the request and response appear in Chucker. Configure header redaction first when credentials may be present.
Run the debug app, make one OkHttp request, then tap the Chucker notification.
