Overview
Cypress is a testing tool for applications that run in a browser. It is installed as an npm package and supports interactive Test Runner workflows for authoring and debugging alongside CLI execution for automation. The repository covers both end-to-end and component testing.

Key features
Run end-to-end and component tests in the browser
The Cypress package targets browser application testing, while repository metadata and package structure cover both end-to-end and component-testing workflows.
Use CLI open, run, and verify workflows
The CLI can open the interactive Test Runner, run tests from a terminal, and verify that the Cypress executable is installed correctly.

Best fit
Before adoption
Match the Node versions supported by the 16.1.1 published CLI
The v16.1.1 CLI package requires Node.js ^22.0.0 || ^24.0.0 || >=26.0.0, so local and CI runtimes need to stay within that range.

Include the executable and host requirements in CI design
The npm package relies on a Cypress executable after installation. Review the official system requirements and account for binary caching plus network or proxy conditions in CI.

Supplemental curator note
Cypress supports both interactive local debugging and automated CLI execution for browser application tests. Its install also manages the Cypress executable, so account for host requirements, proxies, and CI caching in deployment workflows.
Try it in 3 steps
- 1
Create a small evaluation project
Use a small npm project before adding Cypress to an existing application. Cypress 16.1.1 requires Node.js ^22, ^24, or >=26.
mkdir cypress-demo && cd cypress-demo && npm init -y - 2
Add Cypress 16.1.1 as a development dependency
Pin the package version and install the matching Cypress executable.
npm install --save-dev cypress@16.1.1 - 3
Verify the executable and open the Test Runner
Confirm the binary works, then launch the interactive Test Runner. The first run can scaffold either end-to-end or component-testing configuration.
npx cypress verify && npx cypress open
