Overview
Faker generates fake data for tests, fixtures, and UI development across people, locations, dates, finance, commerce, strings, and other domains. Multiple locales are available, and seeded randomness can make generated sequences reproducible.
Features and best fit

Key features
Generate data from person, location, date, commerce, and other modules
Modules such as person, location, date, finance, commerce, number, and string produce values for test fixtures and sample datasets, with helpers available for generating repeated records.

Switch locales for region-specific data formats
More than 70 locales provide localized definitions for names, addresses, phone numbers, and related data. Projects can also configure locale fallbacks when a selected locale lacks a module definition.

Seed randomness for reproducible test data
faker.seed() resets the pseudo-random sequence so tests using generated fixtures can reproduce the same values when needed.

Best fit
Fits tests, UI previews, seed data, and large sample datasets
It is useful when unit tests, interface previews, development databases, or performance exercises need many sample values without manually authoring records.

Before adoption
Version 10.6.0 has specific Node.js engine ranges
Package metadata requires Node.js ^20.19.0 || ^22.13.0 || ^23.5.0 || >=24.0.0 and npm >=10, so development and CI runtimes should be checked before adoption.

Generated values are not anonymized real data and may match real identities by chance
The README warns that generated names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, and similar values can coincidentally be valid real-world information. Keep them behind test-only boundaries and do not send real messages or calls to generated contacts.

Supplemental curator note
Faker intentionally produces realistic-looking data, so generated names, addresses, emails, or phone numbers can coincidentally match real information. Keep test systems from actually contacting generated identities.
Try it in 3 steps
- 1
Install Faker 10.6.0 as a development dependency
Follow the README install pattern and pin the reviewed release in an isolated project.
demo=$(mktemp -d "${TMPDIR:-/tmp}/faker.XXXXXX") && cd "$demo" && npm init -y >/dev/null && npm install --save-exact --save-dev @faker-js/faker@10.6.0 - 2
Create a seeded fake-data script
Generate a name and email twice with the same seed to demonstrate reproducible output.
printf "%s\n" "import {faker} from '@faker-js/faker';" "faker.seed(123);" "const first = {name: faker.person.fullName(), email: faker.internet.email()};" "faker.seed(123);" "const second = {name: faker.person.fullName(), email: faker.internet.email()};" "if (JSON.stringify(first) !== JSON.stringify(second)) process.exit(1);" "console.log(first);" > demo.mjs - 3
Run the generator with Node.js
Confirm that the seeded runs match and that Faker produces sample values.
node demo.mjs
