Overview
GSAP is a framework-agnostic JavaScript animation library for changing CSS, SVG, Canvas, JavaScript objects, and other values over time. Its tween and timeline APIs combine with plugins such as ScrollTrigger, MotionPath, Flip, and Draggable for complex sequences and scroll-driven interaction.

Key features
Control animation sequences precisely with tweens and timelines
APIs such as gsap.to() animate properties over time, while timelines coordinate start positions, durations, easing, repeats, and multi-step sequences across CSS, SVG, Canvas, and generic objects.

Add advanced interaction through plugins such as ScrollTrigger
Plugins including ScrollTrigger, Flip, MotionPath, and Draggable cover scroll-driven effects, layout transitions, path animation, and drag interaction.

Best fit
Fits complex motion design that should remain independent of one UI framework
It can be used with React, Vue, or plain JavaScript for landing pages, interactive storytelling, and product interfaces that require detailed timing and sequencing.

Before adoption
Free commercial use is not the same as an open-source license
The README says GSAP is free including commercial use, while the package metadata points to GreenSock's Standard no-charge license instead of an SPDX open-source license such as MIT or Apache.
Competing visual animation-builder use is restricted
Webflow's current GSAP Software License Agreement permits use on websites, web applications, and digital interfaces but defines certain no-code visual animation tools that compete with Webflow's visual animation-building capabilities as Prohibited Uses. Products near that boundary should review the original terms.

Supplemental curator note
GSAP 3.15.0 is free to use commercially, including plugins that were previously paid, but it is not distributed under an MIT-style open-source license. Webflow's GSAP Software License Agreement restricts certain competing visual animation-builder uses, so the current terms should be reviewed before adoption.
Try it in 3 steps
- 1
Install GSAP 3.15.0
Pin the current package version and review the Standard license for the intended use.
npm install gsap@3.15.0 - 2
Import GSAP
Load the core API. Import and register plugins such as ScrollTrigger only when they are needed.
import gsap from "gsap"; - 3
Run a minimal tween
Verify the setup with a simple one-second x-axis animation.
gsap.to(".box", { x: 100, duration: 1 });
