Overview
GrowthBook combines feature flags, experiments such as A/B tests, and product analytics in one platform. It supports targeting and gradual rollouts, statistical experiment analysis, and warehouse-native metrics for self-hosted or cloud product-development workflows.
Features and best fit

Key features
Connect feature flags to targeting, gradual rollouts, and experiments
Flags can carry audience targeting and staged rollouts and can be connected directly to experiments, keeping release control and impact measurement in the same workflow.
Sources: [1]
Query warehouse data directly for experiment metrics
GrowthBook can connect to sources including BigQuery, Snowflake, and Databricks and calculate experiment metrics from SQL-backed definitions. Its statistics engine includes CUPED, sequential methods, Bayesian analysis, bandits, and SRM checks.
Best fit
Fits product and data teams that want one workflow for delivery and experiment evaluation
It is useful when teams want flag rollout, A/B testing, metric definitions, and result sharing connected to existing warehouse data instead of split across unrelated tools.

Before adoption
The repository is open core rather than uniformly MIT licensed
Most code is MIT licensed, but the documented enterprise directories use the separate GrowthBook Enterprise License. Review the directory-level license boundary before modifying, redistributing, or embedding repository code.
The bundled Docker Compose file uses latest images and example credentials
The v5.1.0 compose file references mongo:latest and growthbook/growthbook:latest and includes example MongoDB credentials. Production deployments should pin images and design secret management, persistent storage, and network exposure explicitly.

Supplemental curator note
GrowthBook is open core. Most code is MIT licensed, but enterprise directories use a separate license, so do not treat the entire repository as MIT.
Try it in 3 steps
- 1
Fetch the GrowthBook v5.1.0 source
Pin the platform source and self-hosting files to the reviewed release tag.
git clone --depth 1 --branch v5.1.0 https://github.com/growthbook/growthbook.git growthbook-5.1.0 - 2
Check the package version and license boundary
Confirm version 5.1.0 and inspect the repository's mixed MIT and enterprise license boundary.
cd growthbook-5.1.0 && node -e 'const p=require("./package.json"); console.log(`version=${p.version}`)' && grep -n 'Enterprise License\|MIT Expat' LICENSE - 3
Validate Docker Compose without starting services
Inspect the MongoDB and GrowthBook services and their image references without starting containers. Pin images and replace example credentials for production.
cd growthbook-5.1.0 && docker compose config --services && docker compose config --images
