Overview
OGRE Next is a C++ rendering engine for efficient large-scene rendering through OpenGL 3.3+, Direct3D 11, Metal, or Vulkan. It supplies the graphics layer for games and simulators.
Features and best fit
Based on official documentation; not hands-on tested · Content checked:
Key features
Combine scene management and GPU rendering
A common rendering foundation covers scene management, PBS and HDR, clustered forward rendering, and indirect-lighting techniques. Official samples demonstrate individual features.

Best fit
Use it in custom engines that need modern rendering
It fits games and visualization systems that need detailed rendering control. It is not a complete game engine bundling physics, audio, and game rules.

Build Tutorial00 for OpenGL
With a supported C++ compiler, CMake, Ninja, SDL2, X11, and OpenGL development files, build the Samples2 target Sample_Tutorial00_Basic into build/bin.
cmake -S . -B build -G Ninja -DOGRE_BUILD_SAMPLES2=ON -DOGRE_BUILD_RENDERSYSTEM_GL3PLUS=ON -DOGRE_BUILD_RENDERSYSTEM_VULKAN=OFF && cmake --build build --target Sample_Tutorial00_Basic --parallel 2 - 3
Inspect Tutorial00 on a display
Run from build/bin, where media and plugins are staged, using a display and GPU driver that support OpenGL 3.3 or later.
cd build/bin && ./Sample_Tutorial00_Basic
