Overview
This client library calls REST and other HTTP APIs from .NET applications. Built as a wrapper around HttpClient, it simplifies URL, query, header, cookie, and body construction together with JSON or XML serialization and deserialization.
Features and best fit
Based on official documentation; not hands-on tested · Content checked:
Key features
Assemble request parameters and bodies through one API
Clients and individual requests can add query values, URL segments, forms, attachments, serialized bodies, and headers. RestSharp serializes C# objects to JSON or XML and sets content headers such as Content-Type.

Best fit
Implement typed .NET clients for individual external APIs
It fits .NET applications that want to encapsulate URL building, authentication, request models, and response models in an API-specific client. The official guide recommends wrapping calls in a typed client without exposing RestClient publicly.

Before adoption
Set migration and exception policies before adoption
Version 107 and later changed the API surface and behavior substantially, so older examples require the official migration guidance. HTTP 404 still produces ResponseStatus.Completed, and exception behavior differs by execution method. The README also states that the project has a single maintainer.

Supplemental curator note
Evaluate RestSharp as a focused layer over HttpClient, rather than as a replacement transport. Because return values and exception behavior vary by execution method, agree on a team-wide calling style before adoption.
Try it in 3 steps
- 1
Create a .NET 8 test project
Create a small console project away from an existing application and keep this directory for the next commands.
dotnet new console -n RestSharpDemo --framework net8.0 && cd RestSharpDemo - 2
Add RestSharp 114.0.0
Install the same fixed NuGet package version reviewed in this article.
dotnet add package RestSharp --version 114.0.0 - 3
Send a GET request to a public API
Call GitHub’s public repository endpoint and print both the HTTP status code and RestSharp response status without credentials.
printf '%s\n' 'using RestSharp;' '' 'using var client = new RestClient("https://api.github.com");' 'var request = new RestRequest("repos/restsharp/RestSharp").AddHeader("User-Agent", "RestSharpDemo");' 'var response = await client.ExecuteGetAsync(request);' 'Console.WriteLine($"{(int)response.StatusCode} {response.ResponseStatus}");' > Program.cs && dotnet run
