capture errors, crashes, and performance context from Apple applications with the official Sentry SDK

About these scores

OSS scale score is an unbounded metric that log-compresses and weights Stars, Watchers, Forks, and Contributors. Discovery score is the current OSS scale score minus the score at discovery. Update pace is commits in the last 30 days, growth momentum is the OSS scale score difference within the recent observation window, and OSS health is a 0–100 rating based on available recency, Community Health, and release data.

Overview

Sentry Cocoa is the official Sentry SDK for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, watchOS, and visionOS. It captures errors and crashes and can add tracing, view hierarchy, network context, and other telemetry to investigate production issues.

Features and best fit

Based on official documentation; not hands-on tested · Content checked:

Key features

Initialize early in the application lifecycle and capture errors or crashes

SentrySDK.start configures the DSN and options and can be called early in application startup. The SDK also exposes explicit APIs for capturing messages and errors.

Enable tracing, view hierarchy, async stack traces, and related telemetry as needed

Version 9.30.0 stabilizes options for view hierarchy, Time To Full Display, Swift async stack traces, GraphQL operation tracking, FileManager swizzling, and more. Many remain disabled by default so applications can opt into the telemetry they need.

Best fit

Fits teams that need device and runtime context for production iOS issues

It is useful for centralizing crashes, errors, and performance issues with release and device context when production failures are difficult to reproduce locally.

Before adoption

Version 9.30.0 requires iOS 15+, and CocoaPods support has ended

Package.swift uses Swift tools 6.0 and declares iOS 15, macOS 12, tvOS 15, watchOS 9, and visionOS 1 minimums. The README states that CocoaPods support ended at 9.19.1 and recommends SwiftPM or XCFrameworks.

Supplemental curator note

Sentry Cocoa fits iOS teams that need device and runtime context for production crashes, errors, and performance issues. CocoaPods support has ended, so current integrations should use SwiftPM or XCFrameworks.

Try it in 3 steps

  1. 1

Add Sentry Cocoa 9.30.0 with SwiftPM

Pin the source-build package and link the SentrySPM product to the application target.

    .package(url: "https://github.com/getsentry/sentry-cocoa", exact: "9.30.0")
  2. 2

    Initialize Sentry during application startup

Start the SDK as early in the application lifecycle as recommended by the README.

    import Sentry SentrySDK.start { options in options.dsn = "___PUBLIC_DSN___" options.debug = true }
  3. 3

    Capture a test message

Send an explicit message event to verify the application is connected to the Sentry project.

    SentrySDK.capture(message: "Sentry integration check")
