OSS Tanbou

manage equipment bookings, custody, and locations around QR-based asset workflows

About these scores

OSS scale score is an unbounded metric that log-compresses and weights Stars, Watchers, Forks, and Contributors. Discovery score is the current OSS scale score minus the score at discovery. Update pace is commits in the last 30 days, growth momentum is the OSS scale score difference within the recent observation window, and OSS health is a 0–100 rating based on available recency, Community Health, and release data.

Overview

Shelf is an IT asset and equipment management platform for laptops, production gear, tools, vehicles, and other physical inventory. It combines QR tags, bookings, custody, hierarchical locations, kits, custom fields, and audit history to track what exists, where it is, and who is using it.

Features and best fit

Based on official documentation; not hands-on tested · Content checked:

Key features

Use QR scans to inspect, assign, and move assets

Generated QR codes let phone users open an asset and connect scanning to custody assignment, location updates, bookings, and other bulk workflows.

Sources: [2]

Prevent conflicts with bookings and reservations

Reservations carry checkout and return dates and can integrate with calendars to manage availability for shared equipment.

Sources: [2]

Adapt workflows with kits, custom fields, and audit history

Assets can be bundled into kits and enriched with serial numbers, warranty details, condition, and other custom metadata while activity logs preserve history.

Best fit

Fits teams replacing spreadsheets for shared IT and equipment inventory

It is relevant when inventory spans multiple locations, users, reservations, and custody changes that are difficult to maintain in spreadsheets.

Before adoption

Plan the Supabase/PostgreSQL dependency even for self-hosting

The development setup expects a Supabase project, and community Docker support still requires an external Supabase instance. Treat database and authentication operations as part of the deployment.

Apply the required database migration before upgrading to 2.3.0

The 2.3.0 release explicitly requires a database migration adding columns and indexes to UserBusinessIntel before starting the new application version.

The Companion app is PolyForm Internal Use rather than AGPL

Most of the repository is AGPL-3.0, but apps/companion is governed by PolyForm Internal Use 1.0.0 and may not be distributed under those terms.

Supplemental curator note

Shelf tracks physical assets such as laptops, equipment, tools, and vehicles through QR-centric workflows covering reservations, assignment, checkout, and return. Most of the repository is AGPL-3.0, but apps/companion uses PolyForm Internal Use and cannot be distributed under those terms.
