Overview
ActiveAdmin is a framework for adding administration interfaces to Ruby on Rails applications. It is packaged as a Rails Engine, uses generators for dashboards, initializers, and admin resources, and provides a DSL for lists, forms, filters, actions, and related back-office UI.

The install generator creates the dashboard and initializer, while active_admin:resource adds configuration for an existing model. Files under app/admin become the place to customize screens and actions.

Before adoption
Check the Ruby and Rails requirements for v3.5.2 first
The v3.5.2 gemspec requires Ruby 3.0+ and railties 6.1+. Existing applications should verify Ruby, Rails, Ransack, and related dependency compatibility before adding it.

Treat generated authentication and defaults as a starting point, not a production policy
The install generator can create an AdminUser through Devise, but authentication, authorization, and initial-account handling still need application-specific decisions. Upgrades should also review changelog and generated asset or configuration differences.

Supplemental curator note
ActiveAdmin can rapidly turn existing Rails models into back-office interfaces, but generated authentication and defaults still need production-specific review. For v3.5.2, Ruby 3.0+ and Rails 6.1+ are the baseline compatibility checks.
