OSS Tanbou

connect product usage to metering, invoicing, and payments through one billing model

About these scores

OSS scale score is an unbounded metric that log-compresses and weights Stars, Watchers, Forks, and Contributors. Discovery score is the current OSS scale score minus the score at discovery. Update pace is commits in the last 30 days, growth momentum is the OSS scale score difference within the recent observation window, and OSS health is a 0–100 rating based on available recency, Community Health, and release data.

Overview

Lago is API-first billing infrastructure that aggregates usage events into billable metrics and applies pricing, credits, entitlements, invoices, payments, and revenue workflows. It supports complex usage models such as AI tokens, compute, API calls, seats, and transactions.

Features and best fit

Based on official documentation; not hands-on tested · Content checked:

Key features

Turn usage events into billable metrics and pricing

Tokens, compute, API calls, and other events can be metered and connected to tiers, allowances, overages, and prepaid-credit models.

Extend the workflow through invoices, payments, and revenue

The same billing model covers invoicing, payment-provider orchestration, credit notes, and revenue operations.

Best fit

Fits usage-based and AI products separating billing logic from application code

It is useful when pricing changes and metering should be shared as billing primitives through APIs, SDKs, and MCP rather than embedded deeply in product code.

Before adoption

Design credential handling and human review for financial actions

The README advises keeping API keys out of prompts and source control, confirming the target organization and environment, and reviewing financial changes before execution.

Distinguish the open-source engine from Premium services

The billing engine is AGPL-3.0, while the README separately offers Premium deployment, customization, security, and support options.

Supplemental curator note

Lago is an AGPL-3.0 billing engine that turns token, compute, API-call, transaction, and other usage events into billable metrics, pricing, credits, invoices, payments, and revenue. The README also offers Premium deployment, customization, security, and support options around the open-source engine. Production deployments must replace default credentials and should keep human review around financial mutations.

Try it in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Clone Lago v1.53.0

Check out the release tag containing the maintained local demo.

git clone --depth 1 --branch v1.53.0 https://github.com/getlago/lago.git && cd lago
  2. 2

Run the local AI billing demo

Using Docker, curl, and jq, start an isolated Lago stack that meters token usage and converts it into charges. Demo credentials are local-only.

    ./examples/agentic-ai-demo/run.sh
  3. 3

    Clean up after verification

After reviewing usage and charges in the UI or API, remove the demo containers, network, and volume.

    ./examples/agentic-ai-demo/run.sh --cleanup
