Overview
Filestash is a self-hosted file-management platform that connects FTP, SFTP, S3, SMB, WebDAV, IPFS, and many other storage backends to one web interface. Plugins, APIs, and gateways let it act as an access layer over existing storage.
Features and best fit

Key features
Unify FTP, SFTP, S3, SMB, WebDAV, and other storage behind one web UI
Different storage protocols and services can be accessed through a common file-management interface without forcing users to learn each backend separately.

Extend file workflows through plugins and gateways
Authentication, storage, file viewers, and workflows are plugin-driven, while gateways can expose data over SFTP, S3, FTP, WebDAV, MCP, and other protocols.

Best fit
Fits self-hosted environments that want a web access layer without migrating existing storage
It is useful when S3, SFTP, NAS-style protocols, and other backends should remain in place while users receive one browser-centric access path.

Before adoption
The repository Docker stack starts both Filestash and Collabora
The provided docker-compose.yml exposes Filestash on port 8334 and Collabora Online on port 9980. Production deployments should review APPLICATION_URL, TLS, and persistent-storage settings.

The public repository does not include the full test suite
CONTRIBUTING.md explicitly says the project's tests are not open source. Adopters should plan their own integration, backup, and restore validation.

Supplemental curator note
Filestash can sit in front of existing S3, SFTP, SMB, WebDAV, and other backends instead of requiring a storage migration. GitHub's latest-release endpoint returns no public release, so this entry is verified against the current master README, Docker configuration, and contributing guide.
