build game scenes, assets, and rendering in C# for multiple target platforms

About these scores

OSS scale score is an unbounded metric that log-compresses and weights Stars, Watchers, Forks, and Contributors. Discovery score is the current OSS scale score minus the score at discovery. Update pace is commits in the last 30 days, growth momentum is the OSS scale score difference within the recent observation window, and OSS health is a 0–100 rating based on available recency, Community Health, and release data.

Overview

Stride is a game engine for creating 2D and 3D games in C#. Game Studio edits scenes and assets, C# supplies behavior, and the engine renders through APIs including Direct3D and Vulkan.

Features and best fit

Based on official documentation; not hands-on tested · Content checked:

Key features

Combine visual editing and C# code

Game Studio edits scenes, assets, entities, and components alongside standard C# projects. Templates provide a minimal start, while complete samples demonstrate input and rendering.

Best fit

Inspect input and rendering in an official sample

The fixed release contains games such as Jumpy Jet. Select its target in Game Studio and press F5 to observe the build, rendered scene, and input behavior.

Before adoption

Confirm Windows, .NET, graphics, and target requirements

Game Studio requires Windows, the .NET 10 SDK, Visual C++ runtime components, and compatible graphics hardware. Requirements vary by target, and final distribution builds are not completed solely in Game Studio.

Supplemental curator note

Stride fits developers who want to move between C# code and a visual editor. Start with an official sample to verify rendering and input, then pin each target platform’s requirements.

Try it in 3 steps

  1. 1

Fetch the fixed Jumpy Jet sample

Requires Git, Windows, and the .NET 10 SDK. Fetch the fixed release and verify the game and its net10.0-windows target.

    git clone --depth 1 --branch releases/4.3.0.2507 https://github.com/Stride3D/stride.git stride && cd stride && test -f samples/Games/JumpyJet/JumpyJet.Game/JumpyJet.Game.csproj && test -f samples/Games/JumpyJet/JumpyJet.Windows/JumpyJet.Windows.csproj
  2. 2

    Build the Windows target

Restore dependencies and build code and rendering assets in Debug. Visual C++ runtime components and compatible graphics hardware are also required to run it.

dotnet restore samples/Games/JumpyJet/JumpyJet.Windows/JumpyJet.Windows.csproj && dotnet build samples/Games/JumpyJet/JumpyJet.Windows/JumpyJet.Windows.csproj --configuration Debug --no-restore
  3. 3

Verify rendering and input in Game Studio

Select JumpyJet.Windows, press F5, and confirm rendering and keyboard or pointer input.

printf '%s\n' 'In Stride Game Studio, open samples/Games/JumpyJet, select JumpyJet.Windows, press F5, then verify that the scene renders and keyboard or pointer input moves the character.'
