Overview
.NET MAUI is a cross-platform UI framework for creating native Android, iOS/iPadOS, macOS, and Windows applications with C# and XAML from a shared codebase. As the evolution of Xamarin.Forms, it brings mobile and desktop application development into one .NET toolchain while retaining access to platform-specific APIs.

Key features
Target mobile and desktop platforms from one C# and XAML codebase
The README describes Android, iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and Windows targets from a single shared codebase, allowing UI and application logic to be shared while isolating platform-specific work.

Start applications through .NET workloads and project templates
After the MAUI workload is installed, dotnet new maui creates a project that fits into the standard .NET CLI workflow.

Combine native platform access and UI controls in the .NET stack
MAUI combines mobile and desktop UI development with device-platform access and works with Visual Studio, emulators, and related .NET tooling.

Best fit
Fits .NET teams sharing application code across Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows
It is useful when several native applications should share UI, domain logic, and service layers while limiting platform-specific implementations.

Before adoption
Manage workload versions together with platform SDKs
MAUI depends on .NET SDK workloads plus target-specific tooling such as Android SDKs and Xcode. Align CI images and developer environments during upgrades to avoid platform-specific build differences.

Retest each target platform when updating releases
Version 10.0.110 contains many quality, performance, and memory-leak fixes across Android, iOS/MacCatalyst, Windows, and shared controls, so multi-platform applications should smoke-test each target when upgrading.

Validate real-device signing and packaging beyond template builds
A successful restore or local build does not prove store delivery. Validate iOS/macOS signing, Android SDK and keystore handling, Windows packaging, and the actual release path separately.

Supplemental curator note
MAUI workloads depend on the .NET SDK plus platform-specific SDKs such as Xcode and Android tooling. Align workload manifests, platform SDKs, signing requirements, and CI images before upgrading production applications.
Try it in 3 steps
- 1
Install the MAUI workload into a .NET 10 SDK
Add the MAUI workload to the local SDK. This changes the SDK installation, so use a development or evaluation environment.
dotnet workload install maui - 2
Create a minimal MAUI project
Generate the official shared C# and XAML project for Android, iOS/macOS, and Windows targets.
dotnet new maui -n MauiDemo - 3
Restore the project to validate the toolchain
Verify workload and package resolution without starting an emulator or device. Real builds still require the target platform SDK.
dotnet restore MauiDemo/MauiDemo.csproj
